"Afternoon in the house of secrets" by Anna Anthropy in Spanish

Tarde en la casa de los secretos is the Spanish translation of Afternoon in the house of secrets, written in two hours by Anna Anthropy.

People often said about Úrquel, the black dragon and Eioioio, that I managed to do stuff with narrative-driven hyperfiction that traditional interactive fiction (the type-a-command kind) can't do. Truth is, this is a practice I've stolen from my inspirations.

Ale Grilli has never done a Twine story that would work adapted to parser-based IF, though his stuff ain't that story-centered like mine is. In this story I translated, Anna takes advantage of the story format by putting the xxxxxxx right where xxxx xxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxx in such a way that when xxxxxxxx xxxx xxxxxxxxxxxx the things finally xxxxxx xxxx, which undeniably influenced Eioioio's first part (sorry 'bout that, but I'm not ruining the ending for you, am I?).

"Town" by Anna Anthropy in Spanish

Of all these translations I'm showing, the first I did was Pueblo, Spanish version of Town, Anna Anthropy's text adaptation of "Town of ZZT". I met Twine thanks to Anna's Encyclopedia Fuckme and the Case of the Vanishing Entree. Then I played Town and was happily surprised by how fun and graphicadveturesque a text game could be.

My passion for literature and videogames always led me to be interested in parser-based IF, but they always bored me. They weren't fun to play as games nor were they interesting to read as short stories. Anna's hyperfiction reminded me the best time I had had with text in games was the Reality 2.0's final part (yes, a 3D game). So small array of choices taken by easily clicking'em was the way to go, it seemed.

She even had the kindness to add a "jugar en castellano" button on the original game that links to my translation. The other thing worth mentioning is I was really lucky that my first attempt at translating this kind of text was this one, since it didn't pose any problems or issues at all when moving it into Spanish.

"Calories" by Emma Fearon in Spanish

Just translated Calories, by Emma Fearon, to Spanish. It's called Calorías. I have a big post about the game and the translation process here at the Spanish version of this blog. I thought about making the same post in English, but being a post about language I realised it was going to be a pain in the ass to translate it, so I'll keep it simple here.

The game's really good. Some people might feel cheated by a very dramatic ending, but if you have the luck to be in the right set of mind to play it then you'll have a striking, real fast experience. I meditated a lot on how to translate the story's constant imperative to Spanish, and I ended up translating it with the Spanish imperative. Who would've thought, right?

There was a hilarious, untranslatable pun about this image in the other post. Now you'll NEVER KNOW IT.

I'm doing a lot of this translations lately, to show amazing hytperfiction to the non-Anglophone people that, for some reason, is so common here in Latin America. So expect more posts like this one. And if having a Spanish version of this stories is absolutely irrelevant to you, then you'll just have to enjoy the recommendations. Which are really cool, trust me. You can trust me, I'm trustable, right? Right? Right.

Eioioio

Intimate is the night, abstract the street
without beginning or end the rain. And Adam would like
to forget and to forget himself,
cradled by the wind,
or to dissolve as a piece of salt in the water that falls and falls
whispering its ancient diluvian song.

LEOPOLDO MARECHAL, ADÁN BUENOSAYRES (sloppy translation/versification mine)
Finished another interactive short story, this one called Eioioio. Made also with Twine, though somehow different than my last one. It's about a girl having to survive alone in the deadly Buenos Aires '63 snowfall.

Úrquel, the black dragon

A big, ruined castle stands before you, Víctor the Tenacious, and it is your mission to enter it and rescue Princess Sonia from the bloody claws of Úrquel, the black dragon.
IN-GAME NARRATOR
Here's a little short story/game/          /thing I made a couple months ago: Úrquel, the black dragon. It's about identity              and republican values. Go check it out, it'll be worth it I hope. It's got four different endings.
